SKYWARN Recognition Day - December 1, 2007 - 0000 - 2400 UTC

Submitted by wd5m on Wed, 2007-10-17 22:05.
SKYWARN Recognition Day was developed in 1999 by the National Weather Service (NWS) and the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). It celebrates the contributions that volunteer SKYWARN radio operators make to the National Weather Service.  During the day, SKYWARN operators visit NWS offices and contact other radio operators across the world.  Information regarding SKYWARN Recognition Day is updated at hamradio.noaa.gov.
This year, SKYWARN Recognition Day begins at 0000 UTC on December 1, 2007. It will last 24 hours.  Translated to North Texas local time, the event begins Friday, November 30th, 18:00 (6 PM) CST.
David McAnally, WD5M, is coordinating the Fort Worth SKYWARN Recognition Day event schedule for this year.  WX5FWD is the special call sign for the Fort Worth National Weather Service SKYWARN group.
As in previous years, licensed Amateur Radio operators are invited to staff radio stations at the Fort Worth National Weather Service office during the event. We expect to operate stations for HF, VHF/UHF, PSK-31, VOIP and on APRS modes.   We would like to extend a special invitation to SKYWARN coordinators and operators in the surrounding north Texas counties covered by the Fort Worth NWS office.  Please come and spend part of the day with other SKYWARN operators and the NWS staff.  Make a few contacts via radio and face to face.  We will provide lunch Saturday (RSVP). Chef and menu are TBD.
If you would like to participate as a radio operator at the National Weather service office during this event, please contact David McAnally via email to "SRD@WX5FWD.ORG" with the subject "SRD 2007 Radio Operator".  Include your name, call sign, desired operating time, preferred mode of operation, email address, and SKYWARN group affiliation.  Volunteer operators are asked to commit to at least 2 hours of operation.  We advise allowing an additional hour for observing and training prior to operating to get acquainted with the equipment and logging. You must RSVP to SRD@WX5FWD.ORG if you plan to be there for lunch Saturday. Schedule and other information will be published to volunteer participates via email and on the web site wx5fwd.org
