President’s Corner

March 2019

We have a very special presentation to one of our members for the March club meeting on the 14th. Please plan to attend. It’s a lifetime achievement award.

With all the excitement around Winter Field Day, the great presentations at the club meetings, fun Play Days, and the various hamfests, it’s easy to let time get away. But don’t let it! We have the Texas State Parks On The Air (TSPOTA) coming up and then it’s time to start thinking about Field Day.

Winter Field Day Update

The results from the January 26-27 event are in. Here is the final tally for K5M from the Winter Field Day Association:

Thanks go to the Irving Amateur Radio Club and the Dallas Amateur Radio Club for making this a success.

Winter Field Success

On January 26, MARS, the Irving Amateur Radio Club and the Dallas Amateur Radio Club gathered at the Farmers Branch Fire Administration building to participate in this year’s Winter Field Day.

Working under the special event call, K5M, the group set up four stations with the goal to make as many US and Canada QSOs as possible. According to the log, we made 237 contacts across four bands plus one satellite QSO by Tom Schuessler, N5HYP. We earned 3,771 total points for the event. We worked 62 sections across 48 states and provinces. David Capello, KG5EIU, racked up an amazing 115 contacts! [See update above.]

Special thanks go to Steve Darrah, KD5YPB, Kevin Grantham, N5KRG, Bill Brady KF5ZBL, Tony Mendina, NT5TM, and especially Andy Parcel, KE5KOF, for the food! And thanks to all who participated.
