President’s Corner

June 11, 2019

What a weekend that was! But what a weekend we have coming up. Yes, it’s ARRL Field Day! Field Day is when we set up away from our cozy homes and take radio to the field. While it’s set up as sort of a contest or not, it’s a great time for socializing and for testing our equipment. After all, when a disaster strikes there is no guarantee that we will be able to operate our super rigs from our QTH. We may have to grab what we can and set up somewhere else. We have one more weekend—our Radio Play Day this Saturday—to test gear and antennas and get ready.

This Thursday is the annual club election. Please plan to attend and cast your ballot. While some positions have a single candidate, others require your vote.

In sad news, the Volunteer Examiner who provided the tests for all the people who tested at Ham-Com used old tests from the previous question pool, which disqualified their exams. This is a huge problem for people who had driven in from great distances—some as far as El Paso. Our own Allan Batteiger WB5QNG will be helping people who are more local to retake their tests at 6 PM before the club meeting. Some of these people may need the entire 2½ hours, so if you are a W5YI VE and can help please let Allan know. This was a terrible disservice to those who took the exams, and we should be proud of Allan for stepping up to help get these folks retested.

There was an interruption in our primary repeaters due to failed power, but Allan and Dave Lane N5GDL were able to bring the backup 145.210 machine online until the main site recovered.

  See you on the air!
